Now I am not a psychologist and I am not a professional artist but I do know that colouring is a fantastic anti stress reliever for me. Colouring is now being used as a form of alternative therapy to help adults relieve stress.
Mindfulness: a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment. Simply put, it is a way of paying attention to what you are thinking and doing.
Did you know that 59% of adults in the UK are more stressed today than they were five years ago. That’s a lot of people that need some calm in their lives. We need something to help distract us from the everyday worries and the 24/7 social media world that we now live in. Please don’t think I am asking you to put on your cheesecloth top, give up your job and live in the woods but a little bit of mind yoga might just help!
Colouring is a great way to get yourself started on mindfulness. Your mind will focus on what you are doing and on the present moment. Try and make some time for yourself by putting your phone to one side (computer, tablet, and TV included in this too!) and find some colouring crayons and pens. I will provide you with the designs for your colouring. There is no set time to do this so when you’ve had enough, stop! Trust me, you will be amazed at how calm you will feel after just one session.
